Comprehensive Lymphedema Management

Providing specialized care and support for individuals living with Lymphedema.

What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling condition caused by a compromised lymphatic system, which is responsible for draining excess fluid, proteins, and waste products from the body's tissues. When the lymphatic system is damaged or overloaded, fluid accumulates, leading to swelling, often in an arm or leg.

It can be primary (genetic) or secondary (caused by surgery, radiation, trauma, or infection). Early diagnosis and consistent management are crucial to prevent progression and complications such as fibrosis, skin changes, and infections. Our comprehensive approach aims to reduce swelling, improve skin health, and enhance your quality of life.

Our Integrated Treatment Approach

We offer a range of evidence-based therapies to effectively manage Lymphedema symptoms, reduce swelling, improve tissue health, and prevent progression.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

A cornerstone of Lymphedema management, MLD is a gentle, specialized massage technique performed by certified therapists. It redirects lymphatic fluid from congested areas to healthy lymph nodes, significantly reducing swelling and softening fibrotic tissues.

Compression Therapy

Essential for maintaining limb volume reduction achieved through MLD. This involves multi-layered bandaging in the initial phase, followed by custom-fitted compression garments (flat-knit) for long-term management. Compression prevents fluid re-accumulation and supports affected tissues.

Deep Oscillation Therapy (DOT)

DOT uses gentle, electrostatic impulses to create deep-penetrating vibrations, effectively reducing pain, inflammation, and fibrosis. It significantly aids in softening hardened tissues, improving lymphatic flow, and preparing the limb for MLD and compression.

Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC)

IPC devices provide sequential inflation and deflation, mimicking manual massage to move lymphatic fluid. It's a valuable adjunctive therapy, especially for home use, to help reduce limb volume and manage swelling, complementing other in-clinic treatments.

Ultrasound Therapy

Therapeutic ultrasound can be used to address specific challenges in Lymphedema, such as softening fibrotic tissue and improving tissue extensibility. It enhances local circulation and can aid in pain management, making the tissue more receptive to manual therapies.

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

LLLT (Photobiomodulation) utilizes specific light wavelengths to stimulate cellular function. It's an effective adjunct for reducing pain, inflammation, and fibrosis in lymphedema, promoting tissue healing, and potentially improving lymphatic flow at a cellular level.

Lymphatic Taping

Specialized elastic therapeutic tape is applied to gently lift the skin, creating more space for lymphatic fluid to flow and reducing pressure. Lymphatic taping can help decrease swelling, improve comfort, and support lymphatic drainage between treatments.
